MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: Torn Battery connector, data line does not give battery status

Hi Gang, I'm trying to repair a friends MacBook Pro A1990, he tried to replace the battery and tore the battery connector off. I managed to recreate all the traces and pads, and did continuity testing which all looks OK.

The pad via's have continuity with the via's to the corresponding test points

The problem is the laptop charges, works fine on battery power, but there is an X over battery, and does not give charge or % data. Im assuming a data line for battery status is having an issue somewhere.

Any one have any advice where I can look next? Im all out of ideas ;o/

Attached is the corresponding schematic area of the logic-board

Hi OT, sorry for bad photo. The original photo was before any work was done. the pads were in fact bridging, but here is the rework. the only pads not connected are the back legs, which are presumably to ground pad, but schematic reads No Connection.

`

Here is the reworked version

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: Turned off while charging after battery replacement and will not turn

After installing the new iFixit battery I tried to boot the laptop and it did not work. I then connected the power adapter to it and waited a couple of minutes. Then tried to power it on and it showed the battery icon at 3% then booted. I let it charge a while longer and began to log into iCloud and install some apps I needed and the battery was charged up to 68% at this point. Everything went fine and I finished all of my installs. Closed the lid and left it charging for several more hours. I came back and opened the lid to find it had shut down. I had not gone back into terminal to turn on the autoboot for when the lid is opened and assumed it might have shut down when I closed the lid? I tried to turn it on but it is dead. I tired the battery reset commands, Using the Touch Bar power button and trying the track pad to see if it is turning on but not showing up and tried a different power adaptor and cable. I get no sounds, no icons, nothing. Even if the battery is a bad battery wouldn't I still be able to boot with the power adaptor attached? I really do not want to do another 2.5 hour battery replacement to see if it's the battery. Anyone have any ideas other than take it to a Mac certificated repair center for them to test? Thanks

I am referring to the battery daughter cable. I will attach a photo with it circled in red. I unplug one end of this cable to get the laptop to start with the wall charger. Then I connect it while the laptop is running. That is when the battery shows up and says it is charging. I installed coconut battery and I have attached screens shots from it also.

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: Right fan speed sensor disconnects

Hello everyone, I got a MBP A1990 for video editing and live music mix, but sometime ago I noticed that the fans start at max speed when I boot up my laptop, after 5 or 8 minutes everything went normal again, however, about a month ago it never went back to normal and the fans kept at max speed. Installed an app to see it can control the speed fan (like with the old iMacs when the HDD got replaced with an SSD), but it didn't worked, however, I noticed that it's the right fan the one with a problem, and every time it goes at max speed, the speed on the app shows 0. Could it be a speed sensor related issue? Can be solved by replacing the fan or need to change the whole logic board? Any help would be appreciated :)

I am facing an issue lately that I have tried to fix but unfortunately without success.

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: Fan replacement in T2 secured MacBook

Hi,

I have Mecbook Pro ‘15 2019 and my left fan it makes a buzzing noise from time to time. as if there was some friction. I have already cleaned everyrhing inside, it seems it is simply worn out. Already found an almost new original fan to buy.

my question is can i just replace this fan? I know that this computer has a T2 chip and some parts are serialized, so they need to create a repair process in the GSX System, add a new serial number, and perform AST diagnostics, Is it also necessary for the fan?

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: MacBook Pro blank screen, no external monitor, computer is running

My Macbook Pro (15”, bought in 2019, touchbar, retina) screen started glitching and then the computer froze. On reboot the screen is black. External monitor black too. ESC on the touchbar and caps lock key lights up.

I held down right Shift, left Control and Option for 7 seconds, then added the power button for another 7 seconds, then let go of all 4 keys.

Turned the computer on and screen worked, and I was on the “forgot your password” recovery screen. Exited, turned it on, and black screen?!?!?!

Did the 14 second thing again, turned it on, black screen.

Should have got Apple Care, any suggestions?

Update:

I am turning it on, waiting a few seconds, typing in my password, but the computer does not show on my lan. Usually the password prompt is very quick, but the computer seems to be slow to load (based on Caps Key and touch bar lighting up). If I'm in that recovery screen with no way to see the screen, how can I get out of it? If I can start the macbook normally I can log in and maybe turn on remote desktop, which would suffice for this week

Turning off the computer and then hitting the caps lock key starts it up again. I must be in some recovery mode

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: MacBook Pro only charging at 60W instead of 96W?

Hello,

I have a MBP 96W charger, but CoconutBattery and the Power tab of System Information report that it’s only charging at 60W instead of 87W (it’s a MBP 15’)? What could be wrong? Could the cable be capping the charge speed (it’s genuine to the best of my knowledge)? I also remember my 87W reporting properly as 86W under System Management before it broke.

Additionally, the system does not want to boot and just boots to a black screen with fan RPM slowly getting higher and higher when I perform a SMC reset. I have to leave it for ~15 minutes before it actually boots.

Any suggestions or help is much appreciated.

MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar 2019: Plugged MBP suddenly shut downs with 1 % battery after turning back on

Hello,

I bought my MBP 15" 2019 in 10/2019. Battery cycles 167. It is my work tool so I use him a lot, like 12-14 hours a day. I have to say I am a bit disappointed with this particular buy (I had few MBPs before). I was dealing with freezing Touch bar (already fixed by updates), Bluetooth is kinda weird on this machine. Using Magic keyboard and MX2s Logitech mouse, external monitor via USB-C and connected Air Pods Pro. Sometimes this 6-core, 16 GB RAM, PCIe disk monster just starts freezing so hard it is ugly as PowerPoint presentation.

But these are not my biggest problems. Imagine this situation I am working I have my MBP connected to my 4K display via USB-C which is also providing recharging. The battery is on 100% and then the laptop shuts down and it is not possible to turn him on. After a few tries, MBP turns on and showing the icon of low battery. After another while, it starts the booting system and voila 1 % battery. This had happened like a month ago. Today it happened again I had 16 % of battery so I plugged it in (with original 86W charger) and after few minutes MBP shut down. I wasn't able to turn it on even when it was connected to the charger and then the low battery screen, booting to system and 1 % batter over again.

What to do? Should I contact my Apple Reseller? Can I fix it somehow? I need MBP for work... Thanks, guys!
