Nintendo 3DS: Stuck On Home Menu: Inputs, Sound, 3D Slider Don't Work

I received a 3ds in a lot of damaged electronics. I've managed to repair everything so far except this 3ds which has me stumped.

The system turns on and loads to the main home screen. The top screen animation runs, I can turn the wifi on and off, the game reader reads games, the system charges, if I hold the power button to get to the power down screen, I can press the home button to get back to the home menu, and I can enter the update/safemode screen when holding L+R+A+d-pad up (Edit: was d-pad down, I meant d-pad up). I cannot enter into touch screen calibration, touch input doesn't work. On very rare occasions if I'm holding down d-pad right when powering on the system, the home menu will start scrolling right indefinitely and I'm able to "fight" against it by repeatedly pressing d-pad left and only when in this state I can enter into an app if press A at the right moment (which is how I know the cameras work), but the touch screen still wont work.⏎
⏎
Otherwise though, the joystick, touch screen, ABXY, sound, and 3d slider do not work at all.⏎
⏎
I've already tried cleaning under and changing out the digitizer, as well as the bezel, and cleaning under the button pad stickers. I've also tried systematically disconnecting one component at a time and testing to see if anything changes or works. Unfortunately, though, none of this has seemed to work. ⏎
⏎
The scrolling right only happens when I have the system taken apart, but it isn't consistent with any specific component being disconnected.⏎
⏎
The battery does have a slight curvature to it, but I'm not sure if that would cause these issues. ⏎
⏎
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!⏎
Thanks!

Nintendo 3DS: 3DS overheating plus screen won't turn on after repair

Hi. Ok let me start from the beginning. I've had an Old 3DS since 2018 but it was passed down to me by my cousin who bought it in 2011, I had to change the battery for the first time in 2023 and after that I modded it somewhat in december 2024. During the end of 2025's first semester it started to stop charging until it just stopped working in general, I took it to a repair guy who tried to change the charging port on my 3DS, we tried to use a different charger but nothing was working (batter shows no signs of inflation/getting bigger). Then he opened it up and discovered that apparently there was something wrong with the motherboard that was stopping the electricity from getting to the battery but if I take the battery out and charge it via an adapter it works. I came back home now (live in Brazil but was living for a few months on Italy) and tried to power it up, unfortunatly the blue LED turns on but both screens stay pitch black and won't even turn on. Also for some bs reason it's overheating on the left upper screen hinge when I power it on so I'm scared of leaving it on for a long time to see what happens. Can anyone please help me, this was my first ever eletronic/videogame and it matters a lot to me. Thanks

Nintendo 3DS: 3D light of 3ds turns on, fades out and console turns off

Hello everyone I'm having a issue with my console:

At first it was working but it had the blue light and popping sound so I replaced the speaker ribbon cable (I already tried with 4 different ones) I had to solder the speakers my self no problem there.

The issue now is that after everything is connected the console won't turn on at all. But when I disconnect the speaker ribbon cable and I turn on the console, the 3D green light on the side of the top screen turns on for 1 second and fades out, that's all it happens.

What should I try next? I also tried 2 other top screens and it was the same thing

Thanks!

Nintendo 3DS: 3DS doesn’t boot into HOME menu

Hey! I have a 3DS that doesn’t boot into the HOME menu.

It is stuck on a black screen with the power light on, green ‘3D’ symbol, and the WIFI light with a dim backlight on.

Sometimes, however, it does boot after waiting 5 minutes or so. The Home menu seems fine and everything works as intended. The Home menu also isn’t slow or anything. It’s just having problems loading into the Home menu when I press power. Trying to load recovery mode with L+R+A+Up doesn’t work either. Pressing L+R+Down+B to clear the Home menu data brings up the menu as intended, so the bottom screen seems to be working fine.

This is definitely a hardware related issue in my opinion as it does this with or without an SD card in. My question is, what could be causing this?

Nintendo 3DS: What is this yellow artifact thing going on with this bottom screen?

As per title, I don't understand. I swapped 3 screens and all had the same problem, so I'm guessing there is something going on with the 3ds gpu itself? Does anyone know more about this specific behaviour? I'm not finding anything on the internet and I'm at a loss, thanks in advance! (this isn't the average screen yellowing I'm used to, it's actually happening from the signal itself and not on the screen, these are not defective units and I tried 3 of them as I said ahah)

Here's the video, as you can see it moves around from left to right and changes behaviour based on what's happening on screen. I tried this screen and the other two that were exhibiting this behaviour on a different motherboard and they are all fine, it's the motherboard itself that is causing this.
Nintendo 3DS: Strange 3DS Audio Adjustment Issue

Hey, ya’ll! I’ve been watching some video game console repair videos and I have been absolutely fascinated by them. They’ve got me thinking about all the things that I could repair in my house.

There’s just one problem haven’t been able to figure out…

My quirky childhood 3DS.

It has this strange problem where the volume adjuster will not adjust the volume. But here’s the kicker: the 3D adjuster actually does change the audio volume. However, it slowly fades into a louder or quieter volume instead of instantly adjusting to the new volume. I also don’t think the max volume quite reaches that of a normal 3DS since I recall other 3DSs being louder when I had them next to each other, but that was in my childhood and I don’t personally own any other 3DSs so I could be remembering wrong.

This issue has been present ever since we bought it second hand back in 2013 (I’m estimating, I’d have to ask my mom for a more accurate date as she’s the one who bought it). My best guess is that the previous owners had been inside it before and did… something… I’m very uncertain as to what that issue could be though, as I’ve never heard anybody talk about this specific issue before.

I don’t think I’ll be tackling this issue any time soon, as 3DSs look very intimidating to fix for a newbie like me. Especially this specific of an issue.

I am gonna have to crack it open eventually to at least clean it as the game slot is a little sticky and I have reason to believe that the infrared sensor might need some work too. I’m just asking now in case someone might be able to pinpoint a possible reason for this problem, cuz I’d love to know what might be the cause of this hilarious issue.

Oh, I forgot to mention, the 3DS in question is one of the original red ones, if that helps.

Thanks a bunch!

Nintendo 3DS: My 3DS's top screen does not turn on, but the bottom one works fine

I've had the device for quite some time so it may be a problem of age, but I decided I'd rather give a shot at fixing it after I saw the new prices for them on eBay. The 3D feature is still noticeable and you can see differences when moving the slide, but the top screen still remains black no matter what program I am on and how many times I charge it or restart it. I believe it could be an issue related to wires connecting the screen and the general console after barely skimming Google, but I'm unsure what to do.

Nintendo 3DS: 3DS Won't Charge (Not a battery or charger issue)

I changed the bottom screen completely on my system and now it wont charge. The light doesn't turn on and what's more odd the charger I'm using has a red light on it when its plugged into the wall but the red light turns off when I plug it into the system. I've tried a new battery and a new wire, both of which did nothing. I tried putting my battery into another system and the other system still worked fine with my battery and wire. Any help would be appreciated ^-^
