1998-2005 Suzuki Grand Vitara Repair

The Suzuki Vitara is a compact SUV (sport utility vehicle) manufactured by Suzuki since 1988. The second and third generations are known as the Suzuki Grand Vitara while the fourth and fifth generations are called the Suzuki Vitara, again. In Japan and several other markets, all Suzuki Vitara generations are called the Suzuki Escudo. The first generation was called the Suzuki Sidekick in the United States. The Sidekick was sold in various badges including the Geo Tracker in the United States (Chevrolet Tracker beginning in the 1998 model year), and as the GMC Tracker, Chevrolet Tracker, Asuna Sunrunner, and Pontiac Sunrunner in Canada.

In most markets, the second generation was launched in 1998 under the “Grand Vitara” badge. The second-generation Suzuki Grand Vitara was available in two-door convertible and three- and five-door SUV body styles. The two- and three-door models are classified as mini SUVs while the five-door model is classified as a compact SUV. These models were available in five-speed manual and four-speed automatic versions/ Rather than the recirculating ball truck unit used in the first Generation Vitara, the second-generation Vitara used a light-duty automobile-type rack-and-pinion steering box.

The second-generation Vitara received facelifts in 2002 and 2004. A rebadged version was sold by General Motors in North America as the Chevrolet Tracker. In 2003, the smaller Suzuki Vitara was withdrawn from the North American market.
