What is the version of my LCD screen?

Hi everyone,

The touch screen of my Surface pro 3 was broken so i tried to take off the touch screen from lcd but I did not succeed to save the LCD. So now, i try to buy a new one but i don't know the version of my lcd because I inconveniently threw the flex cable between the touch screen and the motherboard. So, is there anything i can do to know the version of my current LCD ?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

The model number on my Surface Pro 3 is written in very faint writing on the underside of the kickstand.

Mine says Microsoft Corporation Model: 1631

I realize this is an old post but both of the "answers" are incorrect. This is still a top result in Google searches in 2026 so I wanted a correct answer to be here for people who may find this page via googling.

While the Surface Pro 3 is indeed "model 1631", there are two different VERSIONS of this model. Partway through the shelf life of this device, Microsoft changed screens. From the outside these screens are identical, and there's nothing printed or physically different on the devices, so it's IMPOSSIBLE to tell from the outside.

Screens on version 1.0 were manufactured in a way that was later deemed faulty and gave bad touch response. Sometime later, still on the "Surface Pro 3 Model 1631", a DIFFERENT screen with a DIFFERENT connector or something was made instead, corrected the fault with bad touch response. According to my research, approximately 90% of the Surface Pro 3 devices out there are a V1.1. So chances are good, but not guaranteed, that you have a V1.1 screen inside your device.

If you have a version 1.0 screen, you CANNOT tell from the outside. The only way to tell is by examining the connector itself.

Unfortunately for the OP, if he tore off the connector and threw it away, there's no way to tell to the best of my knowledge. You are going to look for "TOM12H20 V1.1" and/or "LTL120QL01" printed directly on the ribbon cable to confirm if it's a V1.1. I unfortunately cannot find the V1.0 example at this time to give you the comparison.

If you type in the actual model number which is on the back of the device you will be able to get a screen type by just typing in #### replacement screen. That will get you the exact replacement screen. For a Surface Pro 3 I think they are all 1631 screens. Look on the back and see if you see Model # 1631. If not just replace your model number in the #### spot.
