Is it possible to change the headset cable?
Incase my pet chews the cable is it possible to replace it? If so, how?
Is this a good question?

It is possible, but it is a bit of an involved process. Sony did make a Teardown Video, and it does not seem that replacing the cable is that difficult. You'll need to remove the headband from the goggles as shown in the 0:30 mark, and then disassemble the headband as shown at the 9:00 mark. Hopefully, this is helpful.

Its only theoretically possible at this point! While yes the breakdown video does show the cable is removable and therefore possible to replace. The replacement parts needed have not been made available to the public. Hopefully this will change in the near future but for now your only option is to go through PlayStation support and I've seen posts on other forums saying that Sony is charging up to $300 for an out of warranty cable replacement if its due to user damage and not a defect.

I have a frame with cable from a version 1 and I want to install it into a version 2. Will this allow me to operate the version 2. My cat severed the cable on the version 2.
2.5 years later from this comment and the parts are still not available and the cost to get it fixed by sony outside of warranty is AUD$440.
It is not very easy but I have been able to repair cut cables on the psvr2. It doesn't look pretty but it works. The connector is also replaceble but it is not as strong as the original and I highly recommend using a small dongle extention afterwards to avoid straining the replaced connector again.

Hey bud, what type of usb c did you use it??
Is that just the PSVR 2 connector you opened up and fixed or a completely new one that you had to solder every cable on?
if full replacement, where did you buy that one from?
Hey, did you changed the whole pcb? If yes please can you let us know which one is matching. I am not able to find it.
I found that the "correct" USB jack to solder onto the little board on the end of the PSVR2 is made by JAE Electronics and the part number is DX07P024AJ1. You can find these on Mouser or other electronics supplier sites. It has a slightly different pin spacing than some of the generic jacks you can buy on ebay or similar.

DX07P024AJ1 appears to be just one of the models they used, I've had a few on my desk with different models as well. Sony didn't appear to really standardize the PSVR2 cables that much. Shame no one seems to be able to figure out what the other end is, though I suspect it has some integrated electronics to help split off the audio so it's probably proprietary.
I've had some success with these ones from Ali
Just got another PSVR2 across my desk... low and behold it has that weird spacing that only the DX07P024AJ1 can fill correctly. Thanks Justin for pointing this out this, would have taken forever to track this down myself.
The last couple were easily replaced with cheap Ali-express generics too. Really wish Sony or someone would just come out with an aftermarket replacement cable so I can stop having to repair these bloody things.
So it appears DX07P024AJ1 isn't a perfect fit, but it's about as close as we're going to get. The pin spacing is perfect but the shell is only keyed on one side and only half as deep as the original, the other side isn't keyed at all. So the shell requires a bit of modification to fit, but it does work.
Seems these boards that require the DX07P024AJ1 have 14 pads per side, normal usb-c only has 12 pads per side. The additional 2 pad are for shielding. They fit 14 pad in the same space as 12 leading to a bunch of misalignment issues if using normal usb-c replacement parts.
I found mine at Digikey, ordered 5 had them shipped from the USA to Canada in under 2 days, for about $24 after shipping and taxes, still not bad at just under $5 per repair.

So, count your pads to figure out which solution is right for you. (Just remember not to count the mounting points as pads).
My port its 28pin
@axmn I have the same problem now and want to change the type c connector, the problem is that I have the one with a gap in the middle so its kind of 6 pins then 2 small ones in the middle and then 6 more, but seems the most right and left ones are not pins and the 2 smalls in the middle are pins which are not soldered. I asked 2 people doing soldering work one of them is saying a standard one with 12 pins on the row of each side will not work cause the spacing is not matching, the other is telling that it has a gap yes, but its still a 12 pins so a standard one will fit. Now I am confused and not understanding which one is really a way to go. Can you please give some advice on it
I'm wondering the same thing. I've had it since launch, and my cat apparently got bored last night and started gnawing on it while I was playing. Didn't completely chew through it, but may have punctured enough for the headset to cut out. Unplugging it from the console and plugging it back in got it powered back on. Seemed to be working fine. I'm assuming it could be soldered if the damage is severe enough, but I'm not going to try that until it happens/if I know for sure how easy/difficult it is.

My dog thought I was playing with her and ran up to me and hit the cable and ripped it out. Now the USB-C is all bent to hell. I looked and it can be taken apart. I just need a new cable or maybe see if I can fix it.

How did you do it? And what cord?
I contacted Sony today. They told me that any usb-c 3.2 cable will work.
I bought this from amazon today.

Along with a magnetic usb-c adapter. In case of trips, the headset will deploy without damaging the usb-c.

Hope this helps!

Hi! Can you please tell me how you contacted them? And the headset has a different connector, not USB-C.
honestly what are you talking about? the PSVR2 has a proprietary connector on the headset side. not just any usb-c 3.2
Yeh. It is a proprietary connector. Sony has has really not done a good job with these headsets.
Sony doesn't seem to wish to address the issue of replacement parts and appears to prefer charging people ~$500 USD to replace their headset with a refurbished one instead, so you're kind of on your own to fix the one you have as it is proprietary. Luckily the end that tends to break most often is just a standard USB-C 24 pin (12 pins per side). So you can, if you're skilled in the dark arts of soldering, replace the tip. It's super tiny work, and really no fun, but it's either that or fork over more money to Sony to fix an issue they shouldn't have in the first place, it's not exactly difficult to reinforce a usb connector.
The cable looks like this on the inside of the headset, so nope, not standard usb-c in there. That little white JST connector is for the "motor" controls according to Sony's teardown video.
Finding a straight-up replacement tip isn't always easy, so I tend to prefer just buying bulk usb tips that come attached to a PCB board then desolder and reconnect them where I need them.
A repaired cable should end up like this if done correctly, then you can just shrink wrap it or 3D print a new body, preferably one with more protection than the original that actually supports the cable and prevents repeat breakage.
All of this requires some skills and is not for the feint of heart as those usb-c pins are roughly 4x the width of a human hair.

do you have a link for an adequate usb type c connector with board ?
Just for anyone interested and or desperate enought to be in a critical situation and willing to try a fix themselves.
i found these on aliexpress:
this one is for the ones with a high level of skills and decent equipment
aliexpress.com/item/1005008321558029.html this is pretty good, you can practice on the female connector
https://a.aliexpress.com/_Euyc7Le this one if your pcb is fine and just need the connector
This would easier to solder but its gonna leave a bigger puck
aliexpress.com/item/1005004971617737.html
T6B and up might work, careful some are female

While I have used an assortment of those very same connectors, I just had another one come across my desk using a non-standard pin spacing, so it's not one size fits all sadly. Justin McIver pointed out earlier that he had found another connector "DX07P024AJ1" from JAE Electronics which works with these weirdly spaces models.
Sony appears to have just used whatever was cheap, different factories, or probably both.
To the best of my knowledge, there is no replacement cable, either officially or unofficially. Barring obtaining a second-hand original cable that is. I've been looking for over a year. Sony will not replace the cable itself, they only offer a complete replacement headset for somewhere around $500, supposedly they have millions of unsold units and are desperate to get rid of them.
The cable can be repaired with mixed results depending on the degree of damage to the cable, usb plug, or pcb inside the usb. Repairing a cable takes a certain degree of skill and knowledge though, so not something you'll want to attempt on your own if you've never done such repairs before. I've seen a handful of companies offering repairs, but I've also heard some bad reviews claiming they've had their cables stolen by these companies, so again, it's a mixed bag.

I don't think anyone is answering the question. He wants to replace the cable. You only need the first 40 seconds of the video..... but where do you get the cable???
by Au Gold
Yes you can. I have taken a cable from a broken headset and put on a working headset with a broken cable.
