Key repair for Logitech MXKeys Mechanical keyboard for Mac?

Can I get my Logitech MXKeys Mechanical keyboard for Mac repaired? The right hand arrow key snapped off by brushing the edge of my palm across it. I'd like to have the switch removed and a new one soldered in with a new key cap. How can I get this done?

Thank you

Hey @keithrusse49074!

If I got it right, you're looking for a replacement of the whole switch. But here's good news: If just the keycap snapped off, you don't necessarily need a full switch replacement.

Option 1: Replace Just the Keycap (Easiest & Cheapest)

You should be able to replace just the cap and stabilizer clip in no time:

Where to buy:

  • Logitech MX Keys for Mac replacement keycaps are available on specialized sites
  • eBay or AliExpress - search for "Logitech MX Keys keycap replacement"
  • Prices usually around $5-15 per keycap

Installation: Just snap the new keycap onto the existing switch - takes literally 30 seconds.

Option 2: If Plastic Broke Inside the Switch

If part of the keycap stem broke off inside the switch mechanism:

  1. Heat a needle with a lighter/candle until it's hot (not glowing red)
  2. Push the hot needle into the broken plastic piece - let it melt slightly
  3. Wait for it to cool (critical - don't rush this!)
  4. Gently pull out the broken piece
  5. Install new keycap

This trick works great for low-profile switches like the MX Keys uses.

Option 3: Full Switch Replacement (Advanced)

Only needed if the switch itself is broken:

  • Requires desoldering (3 solder points per switch)
  • Need to open the keyboard completely
  • Replacement low-profile switches hard to find

Much easier: Just buy a replacement keycap from the sources above - it'll save you time and hassle!

Let me know which part actually broke and I can give more specific advice!

Best Wishes

Marvin

Hi Marvin,

Thanks for your response. I’m afraid I’ll need to replace the entire switch. Long story.

I can’t seem to find the switch with key cap for de-soldering and re-soldering.

Thank you!
