The display back light malfunction from time to time, adjusting brightness all works fine, its just sometimes it goes dark, but if I look closely I can see the display content, Apple Genius Bar can only to change a new display to fix the problem, which cost like 50% of a new machine price, this is just a backlight issue, is it possible only to fix the backlight? thanks

This series has had a few backlight issues with vertical banding. This is due to a display panel defect and how the systems cooling design fails to keep the display cool.
The display panel is a fused unitized part in this series as such you can't really replace the backlight without damaging the display. Here's the guide we have to take it off iMac M1 24" Display Replacement
