Whirlpool display is dim from bad capacitors?

I have a Whirlpool MH1160XSQ-4 over the range microwave, and would like to replace any capacitors that might be causing the dimness. I just don't know how to find which caps are for the display on the board. The attached picture is of my board.

Hi @andrewt92402

You may be out of luck as far as faulty capacitors being the problem. Although you could always try replacing any electrolytic capacitors on the board as these can affect the power supply for the board

Looking at the image of the board you posted, to me it looks like the backlighting for the LCD display is provided by a CCFL tube which requires AC voltage to be applied to turn it on.

If the CCFL tube is beginning to fail like most fluorescent tubes it becomes dim.

I doubt if you can find a replacement tube for the screen although you may be able to find the complete screen assembly. You would have to unsolder all the 26 connections for the screen on the board to remove it and then check if there's any information on the back of the screen itself that you can use to search online for the screen.

Below is a composite image of your board and also the reverse side of the board taken from this link showing where the power for the CCFL tube comes from the transformer on the board (I think).

I followed the traces as best I could from the two arrows marking the CCFL connections on the board back to where they originated from but I may have jumped a trace, as my eyes aren't that good any more. You may want to double check.

Thank you very much for the info! I had no idea it's lit by a CCFL tube. Like you said, I may be out of luck. All the caps look good from what I can tell. I did actually try a replacement board (Rev 0.7) that was supposed to be much brighter, but the buttons were all mixed up. Even though all the connections were the same. All of this started because I thought it was bad, but it turned out to be a bad switch. Either way, it's working perfectly. The display is still readable. It's just hard to see with bright lights on.
