Repair and disassembly information for Rakuten Kobo’s Libra Colour eReader, released in April 2024. Identified by model numbers N428 or N428B.

Is it a software or hardware issue? Image attached

Hello! When I took my eBook out of its case, the screen looked like this. It has been exactly one year and one week since I bought the device, so it’s no longer under warranty.

I need help to know whether you think the screen is broken and I should buy a replacement and repair it, or if it could be a software issue.

I haven’t dropped it or hit it, but it was inside my backpack.

Thank you very much!

@isdt good luck! use heat and 99% isopropyl alcohol (in small bits), it may help loosen the adhesive.

just make sure to check and see if the displays come as a digitizer with the display, or separately. some devices are laminated together and you cant just replace one or the other and both need to be replaced as one piece.

Hi @isdt

The screen is broken and will need to be replaced.

Depending on which model you have here are the ifixit Kobo Libra Colour (N428) Screen Replacement and the Kobo Libra Colour (N428B) Screen Replacement guides that will help.

If you have the N428 variant, then ifixit have the screen assembly in stock but not for the N428B version it seems.
