Nintendo's first 3DS handheld device released February 2011, identified by model number CTR-001.

3DS Charges But Does Not Turn On (No Blue Light)

I have this original 3DS that had some corrosion in it near the power management section.

I cleaned it up using a toothbrush and 99% IPA.

Even after the clean, it produced the same results of claiming to be charging but never actually turning on or showing the blue LED.

I checked for shorts, couldn't find any. I also check F1 and F2 fuses which both showed to be fine.

I know there was a lot of corrosion but I just don't know what the problem could be. If you have any advice, please let me know

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

@johndoe11771 check the inductor marked 2R2 in your 3rd and 4th image. It does look cracked.

@oldturkey03 The 2R2 does work fine. I haven't tested with the battery in but it passes the continuity check just fine. Chances are its the PMIC

@johndoe11771 lots of flux and reflow that board on the area that had all of the corrosion.

Hi!

That is a lot of corrosion. For sure something is damaged on the motherboard.

Most likely you need to replace the IC’s there and maybe some caps as well.

I think you are better off with a new motherboard if all the power rails and fuses are fine… sorry

Yeah, honestly I think this is a lost cause but im still pushing for any possible fix. At this moment, it seems like it is the PMIC. I want to try soaking it in IPA, then a reflow to see if that fixes it because I can't find a single short anywhere.

Thanks for the help

Hi!

Yes, I think that one is damaged indeed.

Not easy to replace it, but worth a try.

Please try the cleaning first, otherwise replacing is probably required..
