Repair and disassembly guides for Brother printers.

hl--l2395dw no power after surge

Sorry used generic device name device not found. After a home electrical repair (household) my printer does not power up. The plug is not removable so that's not something i can swap. device does not power up on outlets that are proven good. Is there a component (fuse or power supply that can be swapped to fix this printer?

Just for background my device was connected to the outlet when the electriction "tested" turning on power.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

thank you amazing fixer and jayeff, I thought i was decent at figuring this stuff out but the service manuals lead me to the conclusion that this isn't one for the feint of heart.

Hi @bob87840

There are 2 fuses on the low voltage power board that you may want to check to see if they're both OK. (see image below)

The fuse specifications are printed on the board next to the fuses. I can't quite make it out but it looks like they're a slow blow fuse as they have a T rating (T=Timed).

If the fuses are blown make sure that the replacement fuses not only have the same voltage and current rating as the original but that they are also the slow blow type i.e. T rated.

A standard fast acting fuse having the same current/voltage rating will blow as soon as the power is connected due to the high inrush current that flows when the printer is first powered on, whereas the slow blow fuse will hold until the current subsides.

Here's the service manual that may help as it has the disassembly procedure and the schematics (if there are more problems than just the fuses).

There is probably a fuse inside, but I'm not sure if it's user replaceable. A resistor or capacitor might have burst too, but all of that will require the printer to be opened up. Are you able to open it up and tell me if you see anything that doesn't look like other components or any burn marks? You can find the manuals for your printer here: https://support.brother.com/g/b/manualto...
